Canadian Parents for French

Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is a nationwide, research-informed, volunteer organization that furthers bilingualism by promoting opportunities to learn and use French for all those who call Canada home. It is now free to join CPF and your membership provides learning opportunities, student contests, cultural education and other French learning for both students and parents. They fund French language events in schools and seek to enhance French language learning across Canada. By becoming a member (now free!), you can gain access to monthly newsletters, online French resources, etc.

Peace Arch Elementary is a part of the Surrey Chapter of the BC and Yukon Division.

You can browse the website for all kinds of resources, including French lessons for parents of students in French Immersion! See below for a list of the top 8 reasons to become a member of CPF: CLICK HERE to join for FREE!

BC FAMILY FRENCH CAMP
This is the ultimate experience to take French Immersion out of the classrooom and into nature!

This is a camp experience where families camp with their children, but children are involved in camp activities (in French) from approximately 9-3 each day (with a break at “home” for lunch). It is a week-long camp run by volunteers and francophone moniteurs (camp counsellors) in 3 locations in BC: Okanagan (Summerland), North (Gwillim Lake), and Vancouver Island (Nanaimo).

Camp dates for 2025 are:
Okanagan: July 5-12
Gwillim: July 19-26
Vancouver Island Week 1: August 9-16
Vancouver Island Week 2: August 16-23

Registration opens Sunday February 23, 2025 at 9am and for returning families: Sunday February 16, 2025 at 9am.
Details will also be posted on the BCFFC Facebook page

An excerpt from the website details a typical day at camp. More information about the programming can be found on the Programs Overview page online. Because children are at activities during most of the “workday,” many work-from-home parents bring a laptop and continue to work while camping if they need to. The Vancouver Island campground has internet, coffee shops, hot showers, and is only a 5-minute drive from the grocery store.

If anyone has further questions about BCFFC, please reach out to CPF liaison Amber Yaciw who has been enjoying French Camp on Vancouver Island with her family for the past 3 years. Below are some photos of her family’s experience at camp!
